| Jungle Speed Age 8+ minutes 15 players 2-10 |
We recently received this game to review and let me tell you … it is fast paced, fun, and will make laughter ensue!
Playing this with 6 children can not only make you laugh but might give you a few bruises too. You’ve been warned! Middle daughter got bonked on the chin with the totem while it was in the grasp of her brother’s hand. She is safe and sound though and luckily he didn’t hit her hard or knock her glasses off. It just took her by surprise a little. Big brother apologized and all was good. She actually ended up winning the game too which she was happy about.
Our dining room/school room table is oblong so this game was a little harder for them to grab the totem pole in the middle with the children in the middle having the advantage. So obviously a round table would work better for this game or a floor with the children sitting in a circle to play it.
The ages for the game say 8+ but the 4 year old and 5 year old enjoyed playing it along with their older brothers and sisters who are 7, 8, 10, and 12.
They are going to enlist some friends of theirs for the next game. That should be a lot of fun with elbows, cards, and totem pole flying. lol
Overall, we enjoyed this game and hope your family will too. Be sure to follow the directions below to have a chance to win a game for your family.
PRESS RELEASE:
FAMILIES + GAME PLAY = SUMMER FUN!
This summer, families can come together in a whole new way with the exciting game play of Jungle Speed. The most popular game in Europe, with more than two million sold, makes it debut in the U.S. this month at Toy”R”Us, Target, Walmart and other major and individual retailers across the country!
Jungle Speed is the fast and furious game of quick thinking and lightening fast reflexes. Think classic card games Spoons or WAR, embellish the cards with abstract shapes and colors and add a call to action to race opponents to a totem. Each player must be spot-on, in between outbursts of laughter and action! Jungle Speed features easy-to-learn play for entertaining and animated fun for the entire family.
It’s good for the brain, too! Recent research shows that board games, such as Jungle Speed, are positively impacting on children’s cognitive development skills and brain motor function. The game play also helps kids develop valuable skills in patience, cooperation, concentration, teamwork and perseverance.
GAME PLAY
The Jungle Speed game is engaging and exciting. The complete deck of cards featuring abstract images is divided evenly among all players. They place their cards face down in front of them. A bright yellow totem is placed in the middle of the table.
• Each player, in turn, reveals the top card of their draw pile. As players become more familiar with the symbols, they flip cards faster. Players are looking for identical cards. Colors do not matter, only symbols.
• If two cards are identical, those players must make a grab for the totem. The faster player then gets to dump off all their cards to their unfortunate adversary.
• To add to the difficulty, certain symbols on the cards are almost identical, which can trick a player into grabbing the totem by mistake.
• Just when players think they've got it down, one of three special cards can temporarily change the rules and keep them on the edge. Players may be called to make a grab at once, look for matching colors and not symbols, or even simultaneously flip cards.
• The first person to get rid of all their cards wins the game!
• Players: 2 to 10
• Price: $19.99/ Ages: 8 and up/ Availability: July 2011

PRESS RELEASE:
SAve your throat this summer
IRVINGTON, NY (July 2011) – Summer is the time for sunshine, green grass, sports, swimming, camp and vacation travel in the glory of warm weather. However for millions, summer sore throat can ruin even the sunniest of days.
The makers of Chloraseptic® sore throat relief products, in conjunction with TABS Group, an independent consumer analytics company, recently announced the findings of the 2011 Survey on Sore Throats. The study of nearly 1,000 people was commissioned to explore today’s wide-ranging causes of sore throat pain and the remedies people use to treat them. the survey revealed information their causes— which was largely non-medical and activity-based.
Despite the seasonal summer effects that cause sore throat pain, the survey revealed information about other causes—non-medical and activity-based causes of sore throat pain. Whereas 72% of respondents listed allergies, cold and the flu as having caused sore throats, the prevalence of other summer activity-based sore throats was not far behind.
The survey suggests that sports fans, and screaming parents and camp counselors should be armed with sore throat remedies. Twenty-eight percent of respondents suffered from sore throat pain due to cheering and screaming
The survey also found that 54% percent of respondents have sore throat pain caused by dry air. The summer season is a busy time for flights, sports trips and other outdoor and high-altitude activities. Those activities, combined with air conditioning, heighten people’s exposure to dryness resulting in sore throats.
“The findings are a testament to the fact that during the warm months allergies, colds and the flu are not the only causes for sore throat pain; rather there are many other causes as well,” said Jean Boyko, PhD., Vice President Science & Technology for Prestige Brands, maker of Chloraseptic® products. “That is why it is important to always have OTC products like sore throat lozenges and sprays on hand.”
The 2011Chloraseptic® Survey on Sore Throats polled a representative sample of 903 respondents, 444 of whom were male, 459 of whom were female. Here are other key findings:
Perfect for easing the irritating sore throat symptoms are the Chloraseptic liquid-center lozenges and spray bottles. Chloraseptic® Sore Throat Lozenges are the only medicated sore throat remedy that have a soothing dual-sensory solid shell with liquid medicine in the center. Because the menthol acts as a soothing agent, the lozenges also help ease nasal passages and fight coughs. The Lozenges come in flavors like Cherry, Citrus, Honey Lemon and Green Tea (made with real honey), so every member your family can enjoy their favorite flavor. The Chloraseptic Lozenge Line is available in 15 and 18 count packs with a suggested retail price of $3.99.
The Chloraseptic® Spray come in great flavors such as Cherry, Menthol and Soothing Citrus in 6.0 oz bottle. The line also includes a grape-flavored Kids strength formula as well as a smaller Maximum Strength spray that comes in a 1.0 oz portable bottle all at a suggested retail price of $6.25. A pocket pump version of the #1 Chloraseptic® Cherry Spray is also available in a 0.67 oz package that is easy to carry anywhere for sore throat relief at a suggested retail price of $2.75.

![]() | Top 100 Pasta Dishes: Easy Everyday Recipes That Children Will Love Author: Annabel Karmel Publisher: Atria Books (August 9, 2011) ISBN-13: 978-1451607918 |
I love themed cookbooks like this as they give you many great recipes and ideas using one main type of ingredient… in this case pasta, a variety of pasta in all sizes and shapes.
This book is perfect for our family. My family loves pasta and in fact, we have a pasta night each week (Tuesday). I like to make the usual pasta dishes of spaghetti, traditional lasagna as well as spinach lasagna, fettuccini Alfredo, etc. Our children love pasta and ask for homemade mac and cheese sometimes for lunch. They recently were on a kick of seashell pasta with Alfredo sauce too (yum!). They will devour cold pasta salad too. I can’t wait to introduce some of the dishes in this book to our table.
Recipes such as:
The book title says “Easy Everyday Recipes that Children Will Love”. Don’t let the title fool you. The recipes are not just for children… they are for the whole family but your children will love them just the same. I’m thankful I don’t have picky-eaters. All my children will try something at least once and eat most anything you give them. So no worries on getting them to eat their pasta.
About the Book:
Who doesn’t love pasta? For most kids—and their parents—pasta is the best food in the world. It’s tasty and nutritious, it’s easy, quick, and economical to cook—and, even better, it comes in lots of fun shapes! Here is Annabel’s ultimate collection of one hundred pasta dishes, with a section for babies (it’s a good way to introduce texture) and toddlers (it’s great for fussy eaters), plus a huge variety of quick and easy recipes that older children will enjoy and that will become family favorites!
Filled with color photos, simple instructions, and clear notes on cooking and preparation times, plus symbols throughout to show which recipes are suitable for babies and younger children, and which recipes are suitable for freezing, this is the ultimate pasta cookbook for families everywhere. With Annabel’s help, dinnertime can finally be fuss free!
More about the book:
Pasta is a safe and easy solid food to begin feeding babies, and offers a great backdrop for introducing toddlers to new meats and vegetables. But best of all - parents will actually want to eat these recipes too! With Annabel's help, there's no longer a need to make separate dinners for you and the kids.
With tasty, nutritious, quick, and economical recipes, Top 100 Pasta Dishes makes the perfect addition to any family’s mealtime rotation. Here’s how:
· Feeding your fussy eaters: Even the fussiest of eaters absolutely love pasta.
· Concealing vegetables: With Annabel’s colorful and tasty dishes, kids won’t even know they are eating “yucky” vegetables.
· One family, One Meal: Mom, Dad, baby and teen can all eat and enjoy the same meal. No last-minute mac and cheese or take-out necessary.
· Easy recipes for busy nights: Flip through the book on school nights and find a 30 minute meal at your finger tips.
· Save money: With ingredients like bowtie pasta, sweet potato and brown sugar, these recipes will not break the bank.
About the Author:
Annabel Karmel is the mother of three children, a bestselling author of books on nutrition and cooking for babies and toddlers, and a familiar face on British television. Annabel travels frequently to the United States, where her books on feeding babies and young children are very popular. THINK ONLY THE RICH & FAMOUS CAN HAVE THE LUXURY OF A PERSONAL TRAINER?
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TEN TOP PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINERS IN A BOX?
10 DVDs | 10 FITNESS EXPERTS | 1 AMAZING PROGRAM
New York, NY (July 5, 2011) – Each time a celebrity sheds a massive amount of weight or gives birth and miraculously regains their post baby body, most of us regard this with envy. We think, “Sure I could do that too, if I had their dream team of personal trainers.” Personal fitness trainers are expensive and depending on the city one lives in, they can range as high as $300.00 an hour.
Fitness trainers certainly have their benefits; they are motivational and ensure that work out regimens are varied and target different areas of the body including strength, toning and aerobic endurance. Those who cannot afford trainers or seek more privacy in the comfort of their own homes often turn to workout DVDs. The drawback to most is that they focus on one type of exercise such as Yoga and kickboxing. Even more limiting are the celebrity DVDs that focus only on one body part! Now you can shed pounds and tone like a Hollywood A-lister with 10 DVDs and 10 “personal trainers in a box” from HealthyFitBodies.com.
Paying for a gym or health club membership these days can take more weight off your wallet than it does off your waist. “The average gym membership costs between $40 and $50 a month, but when you add the initiation fee, you’re looking at as much as $800 a year,” says Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt, the authors of Freakonomics. They stated in The New York Times that, “People who buy annual gym memberships often overestimate how much they’ll actually use the facilities by 70%.” With HealthyFitBodies.com you can trim the fat in your wallet and on your waist and get a year’s worth of value with a one time only purchase of $89.95. What’s even better is that you don’t have to leave your home to exercise.
The founders behind HealthyFitBodies.com have collaborated with the best trainers nationwide to provide one DVD set, offering fitness enthusiasts a dream team of personal trainers in a box. The Top Trainers program is designed to constantly challenge you and your body. The program uses the “blend method” offering workouts from multiple fitness disciplines. By blending all different techniques for weight loss they have created the optimal mixture of exercises to have the maximum effectiveness.
With the BLEND METHOD, you will be challenged with workouts for:
Cardio Buns Latin Dance
Thighs Yoga Plyometrics
Core Ballet Interval Training
Abs Pilates Kickboxing
Each of the ten DVDs features a separate trainer with a specific workout routine. If you’re not in a Pilates mood and want to workout some frustration simply pop in the kickboxing DVD. Feeling more Zen? There’s the Yoga DVD. For those who want to spice things up, there is the Latin Dance DVD. The Top Trainers system gives people options and the opportunity to explore fitness routines they may not have tried. Here’s a quick run down of what each of the DVDs features:
Lindsay Brin’s Shed Five Fast
Lindsay's program gives you two different 30 minute workouts that are total body and balance toning exercises with bursts of energetic cardio.
Ellen Barrett’s Yogini
Ellen incorporates classic yoga poses subtly intensified with Pilates and body-sculpting techniques. You get the flexibility benefits of yoga plus the firming benefits of muscle toning. If you want to blast fat, firm up and de-stress, this is an all in one workout that is perfect for you.
Angie Miller’s Core and Strength Fusion
Angie's workout is a fresh, creative and fun total body workout. It is a challenging program that will give you the tools you need to achieve a stronger fitter you!
Jennifer Galardi’s Ballet Body
Jennifer's workout allows you to achieve the coveted sleek, toned muscles of ballet dancers. Jennifer has created five mini workouts blending exercises from classic ballet, Pilates and yoga to deliver a workout that elongates and strengthens your entire body and it feels amazing.
Tracey Mallet’s Six Minute Quick Blast Method
Tracey's workout includes a total body calorie blast that fuses cardio with deep toning techniques to lengthen and strengthen your entire body. It targets the core for a flat, lean belly and healthy back.
Michelle Dozois’ Your Best Body Circuit
Get ready to create your best body ever! Michelle's workout is a complete weight and fat loss system which utilizes a powerful combination of fun and easy to follow cardio intervals and metabolism boosting exercises.
Ilaria Montagnani’s PowerStrike 5
An intense kickboxing workout filled with energy packed, exciting new drills and challenging choreographed routines.
Christi Taylor’s Mission: Possible
An exceptional step and multi-impact workout for all exercise levels. Christi’s workout will help burn calories and increase your flexibility.
Susan Tuttle’s Latin Sensation
You will love exercising to spicy Latin rhythms with Susan Tuttle’s Latin Sensation dance workout. Listen to great music as she takes you through a variety of Latin dance routines such as Salsa, Meringue, Cumbia, Cha Cha and Reggaeton.
Stephanie Vitorino’s Ultimate Body Shaper
Allows you to get in the shape that you have always wanted. This workout takes your body where no workout has gone before.
For those who have “felt the burn” with other fitness DVDs, there are no extras that need to be purchased. Top Trainers come with 5 free gifts including:
• Fitness Guide
• Wall Calendar
• 1 free month subscription to ediets.com
• Resistance band
• Yoga for weight loss DVD
With Top Trainers you can rest assured that you are getting the best fitness trainers. One such example is Ellen Barrett.
Ellen Barrett, one of the country’s top fitness instructors, personifies the new age of fitness; where the mind, body and spirit converge for more intelligent, efficient workouts. She’s inspired millions of people worldwide to get-fit and stay-fit…and she’s just getting warmed up!
Raised in Upstate New York playing competitive tennis, Ellen was exposed to the eighties aerobics scene at the age of 12, when she jumped into a class after practice one day. It was pure love. She started teaching aerobics as a 17 year old and fantasized about making a career out of this exciting craze. Ellen became a part of the hip Hollywood fitness scene, teaching primetime classes at the hottest gym in the country, CRUNCH on Sunset Blvd. From there, Ellen morphed into a best-selling exercise DVD star, an international presenter, a three-time book author and a successful studio owner.

The Culprits: Our four boys share a bedroom and with any boy’s room (well almost any) there is always some funky smell going on in there. The culprit this time seemed to be some socks they shoved under their beds and some wet clothes they stuffed into the hamper even though they have been told numerous times – too numerous to count – not to do that and what happens when you do… mildewed clothes and a musty smell.
The Assignment: Stinky Boys’ Bedroom
The Mission: Get rid of the musty smell and freshen the room
The Tools:
| Febreze Linen & Sky Fabric Freshner |
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE… did I say LOVE? Well I do! … the Febreze products especially the Linen and Sky scented line. It’s like bringing the smell of “freshly laundered - dried on the clothesline - on a warm sunny day” smell home in a spray bottle so I can enjoy it even on a wet dreary day. I love this stuff!
Ok enough of my undying love for it. lol You get the point. It’s a fave of mine.
But can it get that funky, musty smell out of the boys’ bedroom and give it that “freshly laundered - dried on the clothesline - on a warm sunny day” smell?
well… Misson Accomplished!!
Told ya I LOVE the Febreze products!
It’s like my own personal, stinky-smell attack weapon!
It attacks and neutralizes the enemy with a squeeze of the trigger!
Now if I had only had some of this stuff growing up maybe I could have attacked those stinky brothers of mine and made them more tolerable.
If you don’t believe me that these two products can get rid of some funky smells, then check out the latest breathe happy experiments on Facebook and YouTube.

The 2011 World's Longest Yard Sale (aka Hwy 127 Sale) is next week!
Aug 4 – 7
I love that I am only a 30 minute drive from a good portion of the sale route and can drive (although bumper to bumper slow) an hour in either direction and find some good stops.
I don’t stop at the “vendor” type places. I look for the honest to goodness yard sales. That’s where I find my goodies and treasures.
Are you going to be hitting the 127 sale this year?
Got your list of things you want to look for ready? I do!

It’s called FyrFlyz™ and it’s a toy that they spin and it lights up the night. They can do even do tricks with it like Saturn Rings, Flywheels, and more.
My children LOVED the FyrFlyz™! Only drawback… There was only 1 for 6 children to play with. lol Even hubby was playing with it and yes I admit it, I did too. I’m sure your child or grandchild would love it too (and you might just find yourself playing with it too). They are geared towards 8 years and up so keep that in mind.
More About FyrFlyz™ from the company :
Light up the night this summer with FyrFlyz, a revolutionary new spinning toy from i-Star Entertainment that puts the power to create an amazing light show in kids’ very own hands. Check it out: www.fyrflyz.com.
Since being introduced at the Hong Kong, Nuremburg, and New York Toy Fairs earlier this year, FyrFlyz™ are creating a sensation worldwide and in fact – topped Amazon’s Bestsellers list in the U.K.
Just in time for summer BBQ’s, FyrFlyz are set to hit the U.S. market with a nationwide launch!
The buzz keeps building as toy industry insiders are calling FyrFlyz one of the hot toys for the summer. Sales in test markets went so well, that the manufacturer had to ramp up production to rush product to store shelves nationwide ahead of schedule. But we’d love to see what you can do, so we encourage you to upload video to our YouTube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/TheFyrflyz.

In the wake of Borders recent announcement it's folding up shop, those holding gift cards from the bookstore chain may have cause for concern. While the second-largest bookseller says it's presently honoring gift cards, shoppers are well advised to use up their balances before it's too late. We faced a similar situation when Blockbuster and Circuit City filed for bankruptcy and are likely to do so again. To ensure consumers don't get left in the lurch, here are a five lessons we've learned from these experiences.
1. Move Fast
Store liquidations usually begin rapidly -- this Friday for Borders -- so it's often best to use up gift cards online, rather than wait until you have time to visit a retail store. Borders liquidation website says all 399 remaining stores will close by September, but they may start writing the final chapter on your local store much earlier.
2. Research the Bankruptcy Status
Borders was refused bankruptcy, meaning they had no choice but to liquidate. Other retailers, however, filed for bankruptcy and turned things around. Sometimes a company that's filed for Chapter 11 is allowed by the bankruptcy court to honor its gift cards. California, however, specifically requires merchants in bankruptcy compensate gift card holders.
3. Consider the Company's Stability
If you hear tales of other merchants threatening to close shop, research their financial stability via such sites as BBB.com and Forbes Risk List. (Stores considered at-risk by Forbes presently include Rite Aid and Zales.) Also, ScripSmart.com regularly updates its list of "Gift Cards to Avoid."
4. Use It or Sell It
If you've received a gift card for a merchant you wouldn't frequent, don't wait until a store goes out of business. You can exchange gift cards for cash right now on such sites as GiftCardGranny.com and receive up to 95 percent of the card's value in cash.
5. Use a Credit Card
If you're concerned about a retailer's financial stability but still want to buy a gift card, do so using a credit instead of a debit card. You can then ask the card issuer to withhold payment until you're sure of the merchant's status.

We were recently sent a sweet treat to review on my blog and I just can’t help telling you how yummy it was. My children couldn’t wait to get a piece to try it out and honestly, I couldn’t either nor could hubby.
So you want to know what it was?
An all natural licorice that is made right here in the United States by one of the country’s oldest candy makers, the American Licorice Co. (Red Vines) which is still family-owned confectionary manufacturers. How much stuff do you know or can think of that is still made here in the U.S.? It’s astonishing once you start reading labels on things, but I digress.
This is some of the best licorice I have ever tasted. Seriously! It’s really, really good!.
My favorite is the strawberry one. I not a huge fan of black licorice, but this one was actually pretty good. It was a HUGE hit with our 9 year old son who is a BIG BIG fan of black licorice as well as some of the other children liked it too. The strawberry licorice was a HUGE hit with everyone as well.
So grab yourself a bag or two and try them out for yourself. We sure liked them!

![]() | A Short Life Well Lived Author: Tom Sullivan Publisher: Howard Books; Original edition (June 28, 2011) ISBN-13: 978-1439192276 |
This book kept me reading as well as jerked at my heart and tears.
As a parent you want to protect your child from pain whether it’s physical or emotional. To have to cope with the news of your child having cancer would be heart-wrenching.
In his battle to save his son’s life, the father in the book, Brian O’Connor, also struggles with his faith and trust in God. Now whether we want to admit it or not, there probably has been a time in our own loves that we have struggled with our own faith and trust in God. I know I have felt like God was a million miles away from me when I was struggling through a hard time. The reality was HE wasn’t a million miles away from me, but I was distancing myself from him and trying to get through whatever it was on my own ability. You and I both know that’s not going to get us anywhere. The same can be said for the character in this book.
This book is well-written and makes one realize that our faith in our loving God is our source of strength and we need to rely on that. HE is ever present in our lives and nearer than we think. It’s us that are putting HIM at arm’s length and holding HIM away from us.
The only issue I have with the book overall, is the word usage on page 146 and how the character speaks to God is … well, a little unsettling with me. It does show the father’s anger, human side, etc. but to speak to God in the manner he did… I just can’t seem to find the word I’m looking for to describe it. Hateful, rude, arrogant, feeling as God owes him something, all come to mind but there’s more to it and I’m just not sure how to explain how I feel about it.
Brian O'Connor has spent a lifetime proving he can conquer life's trials. Despite his blindness, he's built a sold life with a loving wife, two children others say are as beautiful outside as Brian knows them to be inside, and a thriving legal career in Boston.
But hard work doesn't stave off tragedy. A truth that crashes into Brian's life when his young son is diagnosed with cancer. The long ensuing battle brings Brian to his knees as he comes to terms with his own limitations and his need for faith.

The Foxfire Books are not only a good read but also gives you a glimpse of years gone past. You’ll learn a bit of history, self-sufficiency, as well as get a few laughs too.
There are 12 books total and were first published in the 1970’s. I have mostly the older editions on my shelf along with a few of the newer editions. Either way though, they are great for anyone wanting to find out more about how our grandparents and great-grandparents lived and made do.

Although these are not editions to the Foxfire book series, they are great editions.
There’s even a Hallmark DVD that is based on the Foxfire Book character (real life person) Aunt Arie. I absolutely love this movie!
A good addition to any or all of the above are these two books:
