Tosca Cafe’s new anxiety arrangement isn’t the alone account advancing out of the 200 block of Columbus Avenue.

Next door, the accessible cocktail bar from the Future Bars guys (Bourbon & Branch, The Wilson, Rickhouse, Local Edition et al.) in the above Jazz at Pearl’s is still in the works. It’s been abyssal the allowing and liquor authorization process, and like their Berkeley bar (Tupper & Reed), it’s still months away.

But in the meantime, they’ve appear up with a name for the North Beach spot: The Devil’s Acre.

The Devil’s Acre was addition name for the San Francisco adjacency that, at the about-face of the century, was accepted for its wild, adventuresome and crime-ridden exploits, or as the Chronicle’s Karen Liberatore put it in 1985 “the city’s belled den of iniquity.” Named afterwards the asperous London neighborhood, San Francisco’s own Devil’s Acre moniker has been surpassed by the neighborhood’s added acclaimed name: the Barbary Coast.
