Thank you Dave Ramsey! Pin It

We were loaned a set of Dave Ramsey’s financial CD’s to listen to as well as a workbook and a book to read through. We’d love to have a video set as he cracks us up just listening to him. We’d love to see his mannerisms and such to go along with the stories, etc.

Anyway, we are thoroughly enjoying listening to him and applying things we are learning.

We have set up a budget which we I am happy to say we are sticking too!   We are working on the baby steps he talks about. We have accomplished his baby step 1 (emergency fund) in 1.5 months!!  That was not an easy feat but we did it and are extremely excited that we did it such a short time. We are now working  or continuing to work on the next step. We actually were working on this step along with getting baby step 1 in place.  If all goes as planned, our first bill (the smallest one) will be paid off in June. Then we will focus on the next one.

On one of the CD’s, he says “Cash is King” and talks about not being afraid to offer stores a different price, etc. Even at places like Lowe’s, Walmart, etc.!

Now if you’re like me you may have thought, “oh yeah, Walmart is not going to do that nor is Lowe’s”.  Well let me share a couple of stories with you.

Well hubby applied that theory at Lowe’s over the weekend. They were having a sidewalk clearance sale. In the items were two double double-hung windows. The size we need to replace the windows in the living room and the boys bedroom. The clearance price marked on them were $180 each.  He just asked if they would take $300 for the both of them and the lady called  the manager who accepted the offer.  We were able to pay for them with a Lowe’s gift card that we bought back at tax refund time. The windows were regular price of $357.00 each!!!  We saved $414.00 for the replacement windows.  Hubby was going to buy different windows (less expensive) but with buying these he still  saved $352.00!!  What a savings!! What a bargain!!

So there it is… it can be done at Lowe’s.

But what about Walmart you say? Well….

Our printer died and since we homeschool, I needed a printer as I use it for many school things as well as other projects.

Off to Walmart we go.  I could not find a printer exactly like the one that died which was an HPC4680 we bought at Walmart for around $60 (new). I wanted to stick with a printer that used the same size cartridges too as I already had some on hand that I would not be able to return.  I was looking and found two HPc4640 printers that were marked 20% off because the box was open. They were priced $89.00 regularly. With the clearance percentage, they would have been a $17.80 discount.   Remembering Dave’s CD, I tried it out and asked a worker if he would speak with his manager and ask if he would take $50.00 for it as the box was opened, a little crushed, etc. and I was uncertain everything was in the box.    He spoke with the manager and he came back and said, “He’ll take it”  to which I replied, “I’ll take it!”.

So there it is… it can be done at Walmart too!  Now it probably will only work on clearanced items or big ticket items but it doesn’t hurt to ask/offer.

So thank you Dave Ramsey for putting us on the right track and taking control of our finances once and for all!  Hopefully our homeschool children will learn from all of this too and be prepared for years down the road. We all learn things from our parents and grandparents, so hopefully and prayerfully, they will pick up on this as well.

WebRangers Pin It

My two oldest boys have been enjoying the WebRangers website which is provided by the National Park Service.  They can take quizzes, play games, set up a ranger station for themselves online, and even earn patches that the park service will mail to them.

100_9088

The National Park Service recently mailed them their first patch for completing the activities which looks like the one above. They both have a “ranger station” of their own and each earned a patch.

As a homeschool mom, I like educational sites such as this one.  There’s a Teacher’s Guide available too and the boys can even join in the Junior Rangers program.

So check it out if you get a chance.

Little Girls’ Slips on the Cheap Pin It

I love thrift stores.

You never know what treasures you are going to find.

I love looking for items I can repurpose too and that includes anything from sheets to curtains to pillowcases and more.

I recently bought a queen size pillowcase with a pretty scallop edging on it to turn into a half slip for our 8 year old daughter. With a little measuring I just had to cut the top (closed in) down to fit desired length on her. I used the serger to serge the edges, turned them over and ironed flat then sewed it starting at one of the side seams and leaving enough room to slip the elastic through. Cost of pillowcase = .50  total time to repurpose it into a slip =  less than an hour.

I also picked up a set of 2 white curtain panels with a pretty ruffle edge along the bottom. I cut it down a little to fit our 7 year old daughter and again put in the waist and elastic.  Cost for the set of curtain panels $1.00  Total time to repurpose them into a slip = less than an hour.

I had even bought the elastic in bulk about a year or so ago at a thrift store for hardly anything. I am still using it up.  Love to find deals like that!

Here is a picture of their new slips:
100_9095
(one on left is from the curtain panels and one on right is the former pillowcase)

If you can sew or know someone who can, don’t pass those pretty curtain and pillowcases up. Snatch them up and reuse them!

Everything is coming up roses Pin It

Well in the herb garden anyway it is.  One of the roses has finally been trained to climb the trellises I put in there and they are gorgeous right now. The photos below do nothing to showcase their true beauty.

The lavender is starting to bloom. The sage has blooms on it. The gallardhia or Indian Blanket flowers are blooming gorgeously.

I love just looking at my herb garden but it serves another purpose too… flavoring foods in our kitchen as well as making a few herbal teas, herbal medicines, etc.

Sadly the basil did not self sow from last year and the seeds I planted did not come up. Too late in the season to try again so I’m going to pick up a few plants to put in the bare spot you see there. Last year I had a HUGE basil patch beside the house that I harvested from and made basil pesto and dried leaves to use later.

Here are two views of the herb garden this year.   Do you see the bench beside the tree there? My 12 year old son built that for me at the start of spring this year.  We also heavily mulched the herb garden with newspaper, straw, and aged horse manure.  You think my plants like it?  I do. They are thriving!

(you can click the photos to make them bigger)

100_9085100_9087

The herb garden has come a long way in the last few years.  I enjoy looking at it, planting it, and sometimes just sitting beside it reflecting on the day or things to be done.

Explore, Discover, & Create . . . with Notebooking! Pin It

At the end of each school year, are you finding yourself swimming through mounds of worksheets, quizzes, tests, and half-finished workbooks wondering just what to do with it all? Where does the organization begin? What do you keep? Where will you keep it? How much should you, dare I say, throw away? As you begin to tackle this heap, your brain recalls the many hours that went into creating this voluminous collection. You may start to wonder just how well spent those hours really were. You remember the great ambitions with which you started the school year and the many good intentions that fell to the wayside in order to finish this massive collection you are now faced with sorting. Finally, you conclude that if most, or perhaps all, of your children’s work is going to get tucked away somewhere never to be seen again, how much value can it possibly hold? Does any of this sound familiar? Well, it doesn’t have to anymore!

Our family has been introduced to an ageless tool of learning that keeps us from creating these questionable mounds of paper throughout the year. There is nothing left to sort. There is nothing left to pack away. There is nothing to throw away. Instead, another volume (or two or three or more) of our children’s prized work gets added to their personal library at the end of each year. No more busywork. No more second-guessing if our time has been well spent. As a matter of fact, this tool has freed me from the seemingly never-ending search for the perfect curriculum! It can literally transform the way you approach your children’s education and set afire a love of learning within each child. Spend your precious hours exploring, discovering, and capturing the knowledge that awaits you and your children each day. Make learning a journey instead of a list to be checked off at the end of the day and a pile to be sorted at the end of the year. How do you do this? Let me introduce you to the tool that has breathed new life into our homeschooling. It’s called . . . notebooking!

Notebooking is the coined term for what one may refer to as educational journaling or scrapbooking. Essentially, the idea is to take your planned school subjects and activities as well as the areas of your child’s interests and create notebooks, compilations of created pages collected in binders. Your child will fill his notebooks throughout the year with what he has learned about these topics. Written narrations, drawings, maps, and photographs are just a few of the items he may include. The pages of his notebooks will capture both the new knowledge he has discovered as well as his own personal reflections of what he has learned. Through the process of creating a notebook, you will likely watch him become a storyteller, a teacher, and most undoubtedly, an expert in some of the topics he studies.

Unlike some of the more traditional tools of learning, like worksheets and tests, notebooking allows your child to develop a deeper relationship with what he is learning. Instead of finding out what he doesn’t know about a topic or study, which is what a worksheet or test usually reveals, he is given an opportunity to express everything he does know. By cutting out the busywork that is involved in some of these more traditional methods, you open a window of time and opportunity for your children to dig deeper into topics, to really get to know the people, the places, the events, the concepts, the ideas, and so on of what they are studying. Then, they take this information, digest it, and produce a notebook that tells all about what they have learned. After following this process, there will not be that sudden “unlearning” phenomena that usually takes place after the traditional chapter or unit test. The knowledge that your child gains during his notebooking experience will stick! Most importantly this process fuels a love of learning as your child begins to discover how exciting and fun it is to learn with notebooking!

As your children become more experienced with notebooking, you will begin to see the evident benefits of this great tool. The richness of what they are learning will be apparent as their notebooks become filled to the brim with stories, pictures, maps, quotes, and photographs of the people, places, and events encountered. The depth of what they are learning will be told as new layers are added each year to certain notebooks, such as their language arts and math notebooks. The process of learning they have experienced will be unveiled as you note the ways they organize and choose the material they include for their notebooks. You will begin to see certain notebooks take on your children’s personalities as they learn to express themselves in the variety of ways they have been gifted. It is an amazing joy to sit down with your child while they lovingly and passionately share all that they have learned through the process of creating their notebook. Their hearts and hard work have been poured into this notebook and they beam with confidence at the turn of each page. Each year, as you take time to look back through the increasing volumes of notebooks being added to the shelves, you will see that notebooking has become an amazing “living” record of your children’s journey of learning. Instead of tossing the year’s work into a box in the back of the closet, you’ll be looking for ways to add more bookshelves to house these treasures!

So how do you begin notebooking with your family? Start simple. Start with one topic or one study for each child or for the whole family. Perhaps the easiest way to start is to let each child begin a notebook of one of their favorite hobbies or passions. Do you have a child that loves dinosaurs? I do! My youngest son would find spare moments throughout the day to notebook his knowledge of dinosaurs. His head would be stuck in any number of books from the library trying to gather information. That’s where it began for him! Today, he is our leading expert when it comes to dinosaurs.

Perhaps the easiest place to start notebooking with the entire family is with any history or science topic because there are so many ways to dig into these subjects. You could start very simply by asking your children to give a short narration of what was read on a particular day either during your read aloud time or their independent reading time. If they give you a blank stare, ask them what they found to be most important or interesting about what was studied and encourage them to write about that. If you have younger children, you may need to write down their narrations for them until they are more proficient with the physical skill of writing. For children who are accustomed to giving short fill-in-the-blank type answers to questions, narration will take some practice to develop. I highly suggest researching the topic of narration for more help in this area. Narration is an invaluable skill that will prove most beneficial in their notebooking studies.

As your family or child continues to dig deeper, add new material to the notebook. The notebook may include any number of pages and collections including, but definitely not limited to:

  • written narrations from material studied in books they have read or real life experiences
  • collections of quotes from philosophers, experts, missionaries, statesman, etc.
  • photographs, ticket stubs, and information from field trips
  • maps of places and events studied
  • timelines
  • drawings from your child’s imagination that express his ideas about the particular topic
  • sketches of objects, animals, famous art, or places being studied
  • collections of items such as leaves, pressed flowers, and seeds for a study like botany
  • pictures from hands-on activities or experiments completed during the study
  • nature photos, sketches, and journaled thoughts
  • your child’s handwritten copies of favorite scripture, poetry or selections from favorite literature

Ready to get started? Grab a few essential supplies: binders (or a binding tool), paper, your favorite arts and crafts supplies and a selection of writing utensils and dig in! You may also want to invest in some notebooking templates. These templates made notebooking a reality for my family, especially in the early days of our notebooking experiences. Notebooking templates are pages that have been designed with a variety of preprinted lines, frames, borders, and clipart that provide a quickstart to the notebooking process. Use the preprinted lines for your children’s narrations, copywork and other written work. Use the empty frames to add maps, drawings, pictures, and other items. I became so hooked on using the templates that I began creating my own. Then, after realizing how helpful these templates were to my children, I began to share them with others online. You can now visit our website, www.NotebookingPages.com, to find our growing collection of free and affordable sets of notebooking templates available for a variety of subjects, studies, and activities.

Press Release: NAKANO “Splash On'” Tips, Recipes, Coupons, and More Pin It

PRESS RELEASE:

With the long Memorial Day weekend just days away, most people will be flaring up their grills and having people over to celebrate the official start of summer. Whether you’re having people over to your house, or going to someone else’s, easy and delicious side dishes make the perfect accompaniment to any grilled dish. NAKANO Seasoned Rice Vinegar has some great low fat and easy recipe options that will deem you queen of the kitchen among your friends, family and neighbors.

NAKANO “Splash On” Tips:

· Skinny Mac Salad

Macaroni salad without mayonnaise? Yes! Forget the mayo and splurge with the zesty flavor of NAKANO Seasoned Rice Vinegar. Combine cooked elbow macaroni, sliced celery, diced red onion, whole kernel corn and diced cucumber. We like canned corn because it's more flavorful and juicy than frozen. Just before serving, splash generously with NAKANO and toss together. Other tidbits to add: sliced olives, diced ham, diced green or red bell pepper, capers.

· Sautéed Onion Topper

No butter, no fat, but lots of flavor! Just splash, sprinkle and stir. That's all there is to making this delicious onion topping for burgers (meat or veggie); grilled chicken sandwiches; sautéed, baked or grilled fish, steak or chicken; and even hot-cooked veggies.Place a thinly sliced large onion in a large non-stick fry pan. Splash with about 1/4 cup NAKANO seasoned rice vinegar (original, roasted garlic, or red pepper). Sprinkle with garlic powder or chili powder, and fresh-ground pepper or red pepper flakes. Stir over medium heat 10-12 minutes or until onion is soft and cooked, and rice vinegar has evaporated.

· Naked Coleslaw

Traditional coleslaw does not have to have mayonnaise to be delicious. Splash shredded cabbage with NAKANO Seasoned Rice Vinegar, any flavor. Toss in crunchy matchstick carrots, radishes and sliced green onion, and there you have it! A delicious fat-free coleslaw. For variety, add celery, parsley or cilantro, pineapple tidbits, sweet pickles, toasted celery seeds or sesame seeds.

· Summer Salad

Switch up your summer salad with just a Splash of NAKANO. Skip the bottled dressing and make your own; pick the flavor to match your mood.

· Baked Potatoes

Use a splash of NAKANO instead of fattening sour cream or butter. Try it, you'll like it.

Don’t forget to check out www.Mizkan.com for more recipes and tips.

Review: Kids-EEZE Allergy Soft Chews Pin It

I have a few children that suffer from seasonal allergies as I do. When Spring comes and the flower and trees are starting to come back awake, our sinuses kick into over-drive. We sneeze, have itchy, watery eyes along with an itchy throat and all that accumulates into a runny nose.  All the classic symptoms of a seasonal allergy.

Many children and adults try to stay indoors but they miss out on the nice warm weather and outdoor fun.

These soft chews are great for children with allergies. They have a grape flavor and are easy to chew which is great for children who have issues trying to swallow a tablet. The box has the dosage amount listed according to child’s age.

I had my children test these out for me and they agreed that they tasted good and were easy to chew, etc.   The soft chews seem to alleviate some of their symptoms too, which they were grateful for.

Kids-EEZE Allergy Soft Chews  is available through Amazon and major drug stores and grocery stores nationwide.

Kids-EEZE Allergy Soft Chews are from the Makers of Cold-EEZE and have a great taste grape flavor.

Kids-EEZE® is a children’s symptom reliever specially formulated to ease the symptoms of hay fever and upper respiratory allergies. The convenient chew form makes dosing easy with no measuring or messes.

For more information about this product, visit the Kids-EEZE website.

Cut Out the Busywork . . . try Notebooking! Pin It

Before notebooking, our school days were chocked full of a variety of learning activities and curriculums, but the learning was so dry and dull. By the end of the day, and I mean the-END-of-the-day, the kids were wiped out and so was I. Do you have days like these?

Notebooking will refresh and rejuvenate your homeschooling. It opens the door for meaningful learning while saving you time, money, and those precious hours you currently spend (if you’re like most homeschooling moms) trying to tweak everything that you currently do to make your day better.

Today, I want to help you get started. Notebooking is a very simple tool. Basically, we just want to help our children get what’s in their brain onto paper using both what they can “see” and what they can verbalize. I have been amazed out how effective this has worked with my children. Over the past few years, we have been able to completely eliminate the worksheet/test method from our schooling. We now use notebooking for just about e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g!

We have saved time, money, and SO much frustration by using this tool. Now, instead of a trashcan (or tote that gets tucked away in the back of the closet) full of oodles of paperwork that we’ll never look at again, we have beautifully crafted and individualized notebooks full of their best work–their OWN work–their very OWN homemade books! You will pull these notebooks out time and time again throughout the years, just like your old photo albums, to treasure over and over again.

To give you some getting started pointers, I have prepared a detailed description of how to start your first pages and how to gently add notebooking to your day. We still follow these basic principles outlined in this article with our children today: Read more . . .

TLC's "Extreme Couponing" update: Jaime Kirlew admits barcode matching, fraud Pin It

f you have been reading my blog over the last few months, you’ve read or may have seen these posts concerning TLC’s Extreme Couponing.

Well I was reading over on Jill Cataldo’s site and saw this interesting post: TLC's "Extreme Couponing" update: Jaime Kirlew admits barcode matching, fraud.   It appears that at least one of the companies has taken an avid interest in the matter.

Do I think that this will in essence effect all couponers?

Yes.   Many of us are already seeing the trickling down effects.  More store personnel are becoming suspicious of couponers and it shows in how they are handling coupons, their demeanor towards couponers, etc.

Do I think it will have an effect on the coupons themselves?

Yes I do. I think the companies will start putting more limitations on them, maybe lowering the value of the coupon or making them off 2 or 3 instead of one item, and other restrictions, etc.

What are your thoughts regarding the two questions above?

Disclosure:  This post title is borrowed from Jill Cataldo’s post which is referenced above.  I just wanted to note that as a courtesy to her and to thank her for her coverage and updates on this matter.

INTRODUCING THE HAIRMAX UNISEX  HAIRCARE PRODUCT LINE.

SYNERGISTICALLY COMBINING NATURE AND SCIENCE TO BRING YOU A COMPLETE HAIR SOLUTION.

The developers of Hairmax at home hair care product line know a thing or two about providing hair with more luster, shine and manageability than many of the products available on the market.  They are also the inventors of the world-renowned Hairmax Laser Comb; the only at-home device cleared by the FDA to regrow hair for male pattern baldness. One need not be a follicularly challenged male to benefit from the true science, research and development behind these products.  Our sulfate free hair care products gently cleanse and condition the hair without stripping essential oils. Natural botanicals add shine and manageability to make your hair look fuller, thicker and healthier. Hairmax utilizes phytic acid, a natural anti-oxidant to lower the pH and dissolve the build-up of oxidative stress layers on the scalp.

HAIRMAX ENHANCING SHAMPOO

Retail Price: $12.00

Using their vast experience of over 20 years of research and clinical investigation, HairMax has developed a new approach to hair care. The process starts with a sulfate free base to gently cleanse the hair without stripping essential oils. Other shampoos contain sodium laurel sulfate (SLS), a harsh detergent that strips the natural oils from the hair follicle, SLS causes the oil glands to over-react creating too much oil. This excess oil converts to a waxy substance that builds up on the hair shaft and may restrict proper hair growth. Hairmax Enhancing Shampoo is sulfate free and does not contain harsh chemicals like SLS. It gently cleanses the hair while combining with the hair’s own natural oils to lubricate and moisturize the hair shaft.
Hairmax uses Phytic acid in its shampoo system to lower the pH and promote a regenerative action on the base of the scalp, reducing oxidative stress layers. The shampoo system can be used by itself or in conjunction with the HairMax LaserComb. The HairMax shampoo system has a lower pH than most shampoo systems on the market. The company’s research indicates that the oils (sebum) produced in the hair follicle can turn into a waxy substance in higher alkaline environments. This lower pH, phytic acid based shampoo system helps to prevent the sebum build up and promotes the lubrication of the hair follicle to encourage healthier looking hair.

REVITALIZING CONDITIONER

Retail Price:  $12.00

Most conditioners are thick and heavy, weighing down the hair making it look flat and difficult to style. HairMax  conditioner utilizes innovative botanicals that deeply moisturize the hair shaft then rinse free, leaving the hair soft and manageable.
The HairMax Conditioner restores and protects the hair shaft while a combination of botanicals and vitamins rejuvenate your hair's look and feel. With the added benefit of sunscreen protection, the HairMax Conditioner will encourage a healthy scalp; giving your hair a healthy look and feel, leaving your hair smooth and shiny.

INVIGORATING SCALP TREATMENT

Retail Price: $7.50
Healthy hair comes from a healthy scalp. Perspiration, sebum, environmental pollution and styling products can build up on the scalp clogging the hair follicle, leaving particle deposits that can clog hair follicles and leave hair looking flat and greasy. Invigorating Scalp Treatment is designed to dissolve these particles, washing them away, making your hair look full, clean and full of body. The Invigorating Scalp Treatment contains phytic acid to help reduce the pH of the scalp. When used in conjunction with The Hairmax Laser Comb, this facilitates laser absorption from the Hairmax into the scalp.

HAIR FORTIFIER

Retail Price: $7.50

Many of us take vitamins to maintain the health of our body. Well our scalp isn’t any different. HairMax Hair and Scalp Fortifier are vitamins for your hair. This product is infused with a special combination of botanical nutrients, DHT blockers and innovative ingredients, like caffeine, oleanolic acid and biotinoyl tripeptide, that are believed to have positive results for healthier looking hair. HairMax Hair and Scalp Fortifying mist is delivered directly to the root of the hair, maximizing the benefits these innovative ingredients may provide.

Being Frugal By Doing Things Yourself Pin It

I know. I know. The title of this post is a given for many people.  The DIY (Do it Yourself) mentality goes right along with being frugal and saving money.

But how many times have YOU said something along the lines of  “Well I don’t know how to do that so I’ll just have Company Y do it.” ?

We’ve probably all said something like that at some point or time.   I know I have as well as my husband has.  Some of those, we could have probably done them ourselves and saved some money but we opted for the convenience of someone doing it for us.

Then there are times that we said, “Nope. We’ll just do it ourselves.”

A recent “repair” comes to mind in particular.  My husband and I were actually considering taking  my little Netbook to the computer store to have a new screen put on it. I accidentally dropped it and cracked the screen and nothing showed – I did use it by hooking it up to a bigger monitor though when I wanted to use it or a child wanted to use it. lol.  That repair was going to cost a couple hundred dollars for the part and labor though. Something we did not have.    Service alone was $85 at one store and that wasn't counting the parts. He took it to a computer place in town who wasn't sure they could get a screen for it either and didn’t quote him a price on service.

Being the “DIY’ers” we are and our frugal nature kicked in, hubby came home looked online and found a screen for it at Amazon. I got it from Amazon with gift cards earned from swagbucks plus some paypal I had. I think the price before g.c, etc. was around $65 of we we had about $35 to pay along with the g.c, etc.

He then found a how to on youtube on how to install a new screen. I was just leery of doing it myself. Well one morning I sat and watched the video then decided to go for it.

So guess what I did?

I installed the new screen on the netbook BY MYSELF!!

I Fixed it!

I now have my netbook back. I'm so tickled I did that myself! I called hubby that day and told him. Actually, I messed with him a little and said as seriously as I could, "um I did something to the new netbook screen"  He got a worried sound on the other end with his "what did you do?" I just about screamed, “I installed it myself!! And it works! “  lol   What fun is it if I can’t mess with him from time to time? lol  He started laughing and then congratulated me on it.

So for $35 cash (not counting the FREE gift cards earned with swagbucks or the paypal)  we were able to fix the Netbook. Netting us a savings of at least $85 just on the service!!  I would venture a guess that we saved over $100 easily by doing the repair ourselves (well myself with dh’s help of finding the part and the how to video).

I said all that to get to what I wanted to share with you about doing repairs yourself.

There is a great website called  PartSelect.   In addition to offering parts for many appliances, they now have how to videos that you can watch and learn how to repair and/or install parts on appliances, etc.

To view an example of an installation video as well as installation instructions,  check out this dryer belt installation video.  You’ll see the three (3) minute installation video just below the price that shows how to install that particular belt.  Below the video, you’ll see a section of installation instruction which, as mentioned above, are sent in by the customers after they have installed the part. Customers can rate how useful the instructions are and each includes the tools required for the repair as well as difficulty and how long it took.

The  Virtual Repairman option gives you the ability to serach with model numbers from your appliances.  For an example, do a search with LAT9206BAE.   This will take you to a list of symptoms this model experiences and clicking on one of those, such as Leaking Water, will take you to a list of parts that will fix that specific problem (and how often it does) for your specific model.  As well, doing a model search right from the homepage will take you to a page like this  which gives you several ways to locate the part you need: by symptom, by searching for its name, and by location – which gives you exploded diagrams for each section of the appliance.

REMEMBER:   Check your appliance or other item’s warranty before starting any repairs.  Many times when you attempt to repair something yourself, you void the Manufacturer’s Warranty. So read your owner’s manual, etc. before attempting any repairs and  to make sure that the repair doesn’t actually fall under any limitations, etc.   Please be mindful of having the item unplugged or electrical circuit turned off at your home’s breaker box, etc. Do not attempt to repair something that has electricity or “juice” going to it from a battery such as a computer. Remove the battery first or unplug the item or flip the break to off. Be Careful and don’t electrocute or shock yourself!

Review: Beanfields Bean & Rice Chips Pin It

We recently had the opportunity to try out the new Beanfields Chips.   We sampled a bag of the Seas Salt and a bag of the Pico De Gallo.

The Sea Salt was my favorite while hubby and the children preferred the Pico De Gallo ones over the Sea Salt flavored.  They both were good though and a nice change from a  salty potato chip.

The World’s Tastiest Bean & Rice Chips
Set to Arrive in Markets
Beanfields Introduces Unique Line of Crispylicious Snacks

LOS ANGELES, CA – For snack lovers looking for a healthier alternative to corn chips, tortilla chips or potato chips, a new line of crispy and delicious bean and rice chips has just been introduced by Beanfields.  Made from a combination of premium U.S. grown black beans, navy beans and long grain rice, Beanfields chips have a taste and crunch that sets them apart.

“Snacks—no matter how healthy they are—have to taste great, so we made sure our bean chips were the most delicious of any on the market,” said Beanfields Founder and President, Reed Glidden.  “We use only a few simple ingredients, all from the best sources available, to make Beanfields snacks.”

The nutritional value of beans is well-known, but it took snack experts at Beanfields to make them into a light and crispy snack chip.  The four flavors of Beanfields (Naturally Unsalted, Sea Salt, Sea Salt & Pepper, and Pico de Gallo) are a healthier and more satisfying snack, with twice as much protein and fiber as most tortilla, corn, or potato chips.

Every 1 oz. serving of Beanfields chips provides 4 grams of protein, about as much as a 4 oz. glass of milk, and 4 grams of fiber, about the same as a ½ cup serving of raisin bran.  The chips are also free of every one the FDA’s eight most common ingredients that trigger food allergies.  For people who need to avoid salt, Beanfields chips also come in a great tasting unsalted version.

Set to arrive in stores in Spring 2011, Beanfields Bean & Rice Chips are:
·    Corn & Gluten Free
·    Non GMO
·    Farmed & Made in the USA

Beanfields is a family-owned company that builds responsible, value-based relationships with its farmers and suppliers. It supports sustainable farming practices, and invests in food security to ensure viable and nutritious crops for generations to come.  According to Glidden, “We believe beans are good for our families, good for our farmers, and good for our planet.”

Beanfields Bean & Rice Chips will be available soon at natural foods and conventional food stores.  A 6 oz. bag will retail from $2.99 to $3.99.  To find out where Beanfields can be purchased online visit www.beanfieldssnacks.com.
