or how about this one...
Find a location nearest you that you can see the above film, Food, Inc. Nearest to us is an 1.5 hour drive. Not sure if Netflix has it or will but it’s worth a shot to see and reserve it if you’re a member of Netflix.
Sure makes you want to grow more of your own fruit and vegetables, raise your own meat, and buy locally and organically. There are so many “chemicals” in the foods on those grocery shelves that it’s scary. Meanwhile the prices of the organic foods are too expensive for many to even begin to buy them but at what expense are we “killing” our bodies to save a buck? All those chemicals in those quickly raised chickens and other meat. What are they doing to our health in the long run? Years down the road we’ll have doctor bills to show for all those chemicals. Our health bills will far outweigh the cost of those organic products.
I admit it… we don’t buy organic in everything. We buy some organic things but not all of our food products are organic because… we can’t afford them.
We grow a garden but I can tell you that it’s a lot of work and we aren’t perfect when it comes to growing things. I hate weeding and there’s been times in the past that the weeds won… they’re winning this year. Thankfully, we’ve had rain this season but it’s been almost too much. It will rain, dry up a day that you think you’ll be able to get out and work on the garden and whoosh, it rains again. I don’t like being knee deep in mud working in a garden, but the more I think about what we are eating, the more the mud looks inviting.
Oh and…Do you live in the city and think you can’t grow your own garden?
Then look what this family in Pasadena, CA is doing on just 1/10th of an acre... Urban Homestead… Amazing! I’ve shared that link of the Dervaes Family before and it’s well worth repeating. Check out this video on YouTube of their little paradise plot:
and you can see more of their videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/dervaes
Up for some “light” reading? Then read up on the Bill HR 875 and what it means for the future of your foods. GM (genetically modified) foods are what many Americans ingest. God created the plants and trees as well as the animals of this world… not some scientist in a lab coat. Why mess with perfection?
