| As a family, we are trying to use more and more whole grain products, so I was excited when I was offered the chance to try out the Bob's Red Mill Organic Whole Ground Flaxseed Meal. I had plans to make some no knead bread with it and I had asked hubby to use some in his yogurt, well those plans didn't pan out as we both forgot. |
However, I did make biscuits with the meal this morning. I mixed 1 cup in with my home-ground pastry wheat flour and my other ingredients. I made drop biscuits instead of rolling the biscuits out.
The family loved them! My oldest son said the drop biscuits had almost a muffin taste too them. Everyone was asking for seconds on them. Good things I made a double batch of biscuits!
Eating more whole grain products can help your diet as well as improve your overall health as you're not ingesting all that bleached white flour.
The Flax Council of Canada is getting the word out about the health benefits of flax for adults and families (because of the omega-3 fats, lignans, and fiber found in the seed). These combine to offer heart health benefits (including lowering cholesterol levels), assistance in cancer prevention, improvement of digestive health, and much more.
For more information on the health benefits that flax holed for children and adults, visit HealthyFlax.com. There you will also find some recipes to use the flax. You'll find a variety of recipes including some for Appetizers, Breakfast, Breads, Muffins, Soups, Salads, Sides, Main Dishes, and Desserts. Try out the Flax Waffles or Apple and Flax Pancakes. This is on my to do list for breakfast next week. I saw many others that sound delicious and with back to school time quickly approaching, many of these would work well for a snack or a quick lunch during the busy time.
Also while there, you can read a few tips related to incorporating flax into your diet. Go here for More Information: 10 Tips for Healthy Flax Habits.
So the next time you get a chance, add some flax into your recipe and enjoy!

I checked out the 10 Healthy Tips for using Flaxseed and see that I'm doing 3-4 already. My son had troubles as an infant with bowel movements so we started adding flax to his baby yogurt. (Really helped!) Now I continue to add it to muffins, waffles and hot cereals. I hadn't thought about using it with salad dressing. That sounds tasty.

ReplyDeleteMy fiance is starting a diet because he has high cholesterol and needs to start eating better and losing some weight. I loved all the tips becuase it made me realize how easy it is to just add flax to whatever I'm making. It's not one of those things that requires some thought into preperation. I bookmarked the site and plan to go read it some more with my fiance when he gets home.
