As a family, we trying to go more natural or green as some would say with our natural skin care products as well as other products including household, etc. Now I personally can't say that Aveeno is 100% natural but I know that their oatmeal bath is good for chicken pox sufferers. I used it with my oldest daughter used it when she had chicken pox. In recent years, I just ground up some oatmeal coarsely with my food processor and tossed that into the lukewarm bath water for the children.
Hubby recently bought a "crystal stick" deodorant and has really been liking how it works.
He and I recently started the "No-Poo" challenge that I recently read about. You use a mixture of baking soda and water for your shampoo and your "conditioner" is an old timey rinse which is a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar. We've been doing the challenge for about a week now and I have to say my hair is not nearly as frizzy as it was. It's more manageable as well. I have natural curly and wavy hair that humidity is not kind to here in the South.
I a'm transitioning back to making Homemade Powdered Laundry Detergent after using store bought stuff for the last few of years. I used to make our laundry soap all the time but got out of the habit of it because the awful well water we used to have. So I am buying Borax, Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, and a bar of Zote soap (can't find Fels Naptha anymore) to make my powdered detergent. Our well water was and still is rust/iron laden. It comes out orange at times, smells like a rusty nail and tastes metallic. We are now hooked up to city water because we couldn't drink the well water it was so horrible. Washing clothes in it was a risk and they often came out with rust/iron stains on them that would not come out. It was horrible.
My cleaning products now consist of baking soda and white vinegar unless I've been sent a product to review. If I need a scrubbing solution, I make a paste with that and some lemon juice with salt.
Why you ask that we are doing this? Because all those chemicals in the products on the store shelves are not good for our health or anyone else's.
