Friday Freebies and Happenings

While we were getting ready to head out the door early this morning,  Hubby called and asked if I could meet him somewhere to give him some money as I was headed to the bank to cash/deposit his check then go to Walmart to pick up yet another pair of glasses for ds#2.

We had some issues with meeting him on time so he asked where else I was going and asked if I would just change plans and go to those particular stores in Knoxville and meet up with him there for all of us to eat lunch together and see a few of his new job sites.

So change of plans and we headed towards Knoxville after gassing up the van. Of course I deviated from the plan slightly by stopping at the Goodwill really quick while dd#1 drove the van just down the street to get gas.  I'm glad we did this though because I found a beautiful crystal clear glass oil lamp with chimney for $9.82 (w/tax). I tried finding one online that looks like and I can't find one. The bottom is square like with design.

I also stopped at a church yard sale and found two cruets with clasps on them for .25 each (similar to this one on ebay) and a total of 10 strap hinge scrapbook pages for $1. The pages I bought for a friend as she uses this type of album.

I knew that our path was going to take me by a particular thrift store that I hadn't been to in a while so I stopped there briefly.  I found 5 dresses for the girls for $1 each and 2 dress shirts for ds#2 and ds#3... Total $7.  This particular store had a box of apples sitting on the counter and the lady asked if I could use them. I told her I could can them into applesauce. She gave me the entire box which was a jelly jar canning box.  The apples are small but they can be worked with.

Once meeting up with dh, we ate lunch then viewed a couple of his worksites  to let me know where he would be if by chance he wanted me to bring him something from the office, or whatnot. I have to say I hate driving in Knoxville.

Afterwards he headed home.  Once we got home, there was a milk crate of regular tomatoes as well as what was equivalent to another milk crate of Roma tomatoes sitting on our porch.  We know who dropped them off... the local farmer that always lets us pick in his fields after the season is over.

I also gathered 10 of our own tomatoes from our garden along with 2 more okra, 1 pickling cucumber, and 1 Gypsy pepper.   I noticed deer tracks in the garden as well as some sort of fungus growing on the mulch under the tomatoes. Not good.  Dh and I will have to investigate that in the morning and see if we can't remedy the situation.  It's a bluish-purple fungus that probably has been "spurred" on by all the rain we've had since last Tuesday.  I'm thankful for the rain but not this fungus.  I also have to weed again now a the rain has really helped those as well as our garden grow.
