Four Foods On Friday 41

This week’s four questions are all related to vacation or traveling.

#1. If you could travel anywhere to have a meal, where would you want to go and what would you want to eat?

Back in time to eat at my Granny's house where she would fry me a cornbeef sandwich on her old wood cookstove, then put it on toast with mayonnaise then give me a bowl of Pet Vanilla Ice Cream.  I still may these but mine never taste as it did when she made it on the wood cookstove.    I was 17 when my Granny went home to Glory. She was 93 years old.

#2. When you go away do you make your own meals or eat out?

We pack as often as possible. We eat out on occasion but not very often.

#3. While traveling if you have to stop for a meal do you go in or do you go through the drive thru and eat in the car?

If we have to stop, we choose a drive thru because it's cheaper the majority of the time for our big family.

#4. Share a recipe or food related trip for people making a long trip by car.

Fill a milk jug (or two or more) 3/4 of the way full with water then freeze. Use these in place of buying bagged ice for your coolers.  The jugs of frozen water will keep you food cold and as it melts you'll have nice cold ice water to drink instead of having to buy bottled water or soda.  Plus you won't have a cooler of water to pour out then refill with yet another bag of ice.  If you're going to be staying in a motel, see if you can find one that has a kitchenette that you (look for the chain of Extended Stay Motels) and you can freezer jugs of water for your return trip as well as cook your meals in your room and save the added expense of eating out while on your trip or vacation.

  1. I never thought about doing that with a milk jug. Thanks!

  2. Good idea using a jug of frozen water to keep food close. I'm always trying to keep food out of the water from the ice that has melted and with this trick, no worries.

  3. Great idea about the water jugs.

I never took many road trips with my son when he was young, but we took at least two a year when I was growing up. There were some difficulties (Are we there yet? Mooooooom! He's looking at me!) but I have a lot of good memories fromt hose trips!
