| The Busy Mom's Guide to a Happy, Organized Home: Fast Solutions to Hundreds of Everyday Dilemmas Author: Kathy Peel Publisher: Picket Fence Press, an imprint of Tyndale House Publishers; August, 2008 ISBN-10: 1414316194 ISBN-13: 978-1414316192 |
I don't think I could ever be accused of not being busy. Like many other moms, I stay busy.
I am the mom of 6 children age 9 and under as well as an adult child who is age 20. We homeschool, garden together, do chores together, read together, play together, etc. But even with my hyperactive organizational side, trying to keep things "under control" and managed to make the most of our time takes well... time as well as organization, etc. It's not been an overnight thing, I've had to work at it.... a lot... and I'm still working at it.
The author delves in how to get yourself to the point of being "under control" and being organized so that your time is used productively. How many hours a day are we idle in things and just not doing much of nothing? Oh sure it's good to take a break and rest don't get me wrong. Taking too many "time outs" though sure can add to the back log of things to do though.
The author takes the book in sections to give you ideas, tips, etc. in seven chapters that consist of:
- Time & Scheduling - prioritizing your time, base operations center aka control center, time management and multi-tasking
- Home & Property - organizing, storage ideas, clutter control, cleaning, DIY decorating, care care, and more
- Food - menus, meal planning, etc.
- Family & Friends - "managing" relationships
- Finances - money matters
- Special Events - entertaining guests, party planning, holiday planning, vacations, trips
- Self-Management - self care -- taking care of ourselves basically
In addition to the informative and helpful chapters are a list of web sources, forms such as the Daily Hit List (aka To Do List), checklists, book log, important reminders and more. Along with these great additions, you'll find tips, ideas, etc. in the margins of the pages.
Overall, this book is not a fast read, but it is a good one that will help you "take back control" in your busy household.
