Are You Afraid of Spiders?

We have a neighbor that despises spiders. They scare her.  I'm not a fan of the buggers myself but I'm not afraid of them. I've been bit by a couple but thankfully they were not poisonous spiders like the Brown Recluse or Black Widow.  My 9 year old son was bit on the toe by a Black Widow when he attempted to put sneakers on that he had left out on the porch. He learned his lesson... always look in your shoes or beat them on the porch.  He had to have antibiotics and was sick for a day or two from it.   I just had a spot on my upper arm that look like a ring worm spot. I used an antibiotic cream to get that cleared up.

I have never heard of spider traps until today. I've used moth traps for our pantry before though and they did a great job of luring and catching pantry moths that had been brought in accidentally with a box of pasta I had bought at the store.

I wonder how well the spider traps would work? We live in the country and get spiders, ladybugs, ants, etc. that come in.

  1. How scary that your son got bit by a black widow! I just did a post on Friday about how we saw a huge one in our yard. And having one of my son's bit is my nightmare. Did you rush him to the ER? I'm glad that it didn't seem like that big of a deal, or was it? Anyway, I'll have to look into those spider traps.

  2. I'm somewhat arachnophobic, but it depends on the spider and the situation. I don't like the ones that hang from webs, and I don't like big, creepy spiders. Strangely, tarantulas don't really scare me too much--I even held on in a pet shop once. I guess because they are too big to look like 'long leggedy creepies.'
Out on my clothesline, there are a few tiny ones that spin pretty webs, and they are kinda cute.
But never EVER put me in a closed area (like a car) with a spider! I have been known to freak out on such occasions.

  3. We did rush him to the ER... for us it's a 30 mile drive. He got sick at his stomach from the bite and was a little feverish but thankfully the antibiotics helped him.
