I have had the flu so I am behind on getting book reviews and other reviews posted. Please be patient with me as I get caught up on all those as well as get caught up on emails.

You will see many posts in one day until I get caught back up so I apologize in advance for overloading your feed reader.

Thank you for understanding.

Introducing the Bugabike!

I know what you're saying...

"Bug-a--huh?"

"A what-a-bike?"

Well that's what I thought to myself anyway.

So to enlighten you a little more as well as to share what I've learned.

Introducing the Bugabike!

The Bugabike is a balance bike, which up till now I had never even seen one much less heard of one. I guess in Europe they are fairly common but here in the US its a new concept.   So new that I'm just seeing mentions of this cool bike for children popping up around the internet on other blogs.

The idea is that before a child can use a petal bike they can learn to use a balance bike.

A balance bike is basically a scaled down bike with no petals, the child can use the bike much like they would use a ride-on toy. The difference in a  Bugabike and a regular bike is there are no pedaling involved.

The idea and concept behind this cool bike is that they learn to balance and to control the bike so that when they are ready for a regular bike with pedals, their transition is made easier. Thus there is no need for training wheels.

The Bugabike's body is made of birch polywood so it's rugged and tough. It sports pneumatic tires just like a real bike does. It even has rubber hand grips, and all of the fittings are high grade steel which are just as necessary to a regular bike.   The  Bugabike  comes mostly assembled so all you have to do is install the front piece.  That only takes a few minutes and your little guy or gal can be on their way to enjoying a bike ride.  Plus the easy assemble process means no frustration and aggravation like that which comes with a regular tricycle and even some ride-on toys.  Oh sure regular bikes can be a pain to assemble but you can have the stores do it for you. This one you can do yourself in a mere few minutes.  Give your hubby or an older child something to put together!

Although the Bugabike is an all wood toy, it is very lightweight. I comes in the scales at around 8lbs so you don't have to worry about something heavy being knocked over on top of your child. He or she can probably even pick it up and move it around as needed (or wanted).  The Bugabike is also very compact so it will easily fit anywhere thus making it easy for you to take on family outings including camping trips and vacations.

The tires on the Bugabike will truly go anywhere from inside to outside to pretty much any terrain you can throw at it. The entire bike is warranted for three years though honestly I can't see why it wouldn't last twenty unless you have an exceptionally rough child.

The Bugabike is fully adjustable. It will adjust to fit children from ages 2 to 6 and they even offer an extension for either very tall children or older children who still love their Bugabike.

The Bugabike is available on Amazon and comes in quite a few color choices and two choices of spokes (solid wood or an open spoke design more like real bikes).  It is also available on the  Bugabike's official website where you can see all the color options at once as well as learn more about this innovative first "bike" for children.

We saw that in London 2 years ago and we thought it was a great idea. But that bike was close to $300. We weren't willing to spend that much. My husband had been talking to some people and found http://bokoobikes.com/index.cfm. From Bokoo bikes! It has been great! Our 4 yr old feels so confident and has been whizzing around without having his feet on the ground for a while. Now we are starting the transition to a regular pedal bike!

A friend came from Europe to visit last summer and they brought their balance bike for their toddler along on the trip. The toddler was balancing perfectly and going at tremendous speeds. I've read that children are capable of learning how to balance on a bike long before than can coordinate pedaling and balancing. So they can then go straight from this onto a real bike without training wheels.

Or at least, that's the theory as I understand it.

Would be nice for my new grandson when he is able to ride one.
