| I searched and searched at Blog Carnival but did not find a carnival specifically geared toward Home Preserving Methods (canning, freezing, dehydrating, root cellaring). Home Canning and a few of the others are becoming a dying lot of skills. Canning used to be a standard thing to do come harvest time with gardeners. Now the families are smaller for many people and thus their gardens have shrunk and home preserving skills is going by the wayside. It doesn't have to be that way. | |
So I decided to create my own carnival and invite others to join in. I'll host the first one and will ask for volunteers to host future ones.
So pass the word around to your bloggy friends (feel free to link to this post) and let's get these old time skills revived!!
Carnival Info: This is going to be A Carnival to Share Recipes and How-To's for Canning, Freezing, Dehydrating (drying), and Root Cellaring of Fruits, Vegetables, and Herbs.
Submission guidelines: Your post should be about one of the four methods of preserving food at home. You can share a tip, a recipe, or whatever you like that involves Canning, Freezing, Dehydrating (drying), or Root Cellaring of Fruits, Vegetables, and Herbs.
(Your post can be a new one or one from your archives.)
Deadline to Submit: every Sunday at 6pm EST (time was changed from 2pm to 6pm per request).
Carnival is to be posted by that Monday on the respective Host's blog.

Sounds like a great carnival - if you need a host, let me know :)
I was just invited to take part and would love to accept. Could you create a button for on one's sidebar for this...it would be nice.
Thanks!
The cost of vegetables and the ineptness of the government to keep salmonella out of my food led me to take up canning! I've been canning for 20 years and altho I'm scared of the pressure cooker, I use it (with caution lol). I am going to love this Carnival!

Just got your invite. Id love to take part in this!
Question-does the post have to be one written that week, or can you link to something in your archives?
Jenn,
I couldn't email you directly to your question about the Carnival.
It can be a new one or one in your archives... totally up to you.
Thank you and thank you to the rest of you are considering submitting to the carnival!
Laura
Hi Laura,
Sorry it has been a long time since I have been by. I have really been trying to spend less time on the computer. So I don't visit blogs as often, about every couple of weeks instead of every day. Anyway, this sounds like a great idea for a carnival. I never took to home preserving, but it is definitely something to be doing in these days of high prices. My mom canned a lot when she and my dad were married, but she must not have like it much, because she got rid of all of the canning stuff after their divorce.
Anyhoo...just wanted to say hi! And I wanted to invite you to my book giveaway
Rats! I just saw this and I'm too late.
Kim, go ahead and submit it as I won't post the carnival until tomorrow.
Thanks!
Laura
So sorry Laura...this totally slipped my mind today. I wanted to take part, but perhaps another time. :-(
Thank you so much for doing this! I've been canning with my dh for over 15 years. (It may have been one of the reasons why he married me!) I heard about your blog on the Money Saving Mom site. I put a reminder in my planner for writing a post this weekend.
Hi! I love the idea, and I'm willing to take a turn hosting on a regular basis (even every other week, maybe?). You can email me.

:)
Hi Laura, I posted another entry to the Home Preserving Carnival this week. I hope it took! Still trying to get in the groove on this!
Do you need any more hosts for this carnival? I would love to host it! I've been enjoying reading everyone's posts on preserving. It's getting me inspired to try my hand at it. :-)
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I just thought of this over the weekend and did a search, figuring I'd have to create one, having no idea how to go about doing so. But you already did it! Great minds think alike ;-) I'd like to volunteer to host it. It would be easiset for me to do the next one, due on the 14th as I will be home alone for 5 days w/o DH and DD so will have tons of free time LOL. Actually, planning on canning apple cider and sauce that weekend and who knows what else? Let me know! I can do other dates as well. Please contact me at annmare at new dot rr dot com NOT my GMail account that logs me into Blogger as I don't actually use it.
