I have had the flu so I am behind on getting book reviews and other reviews posted. Please be patient with me as I get caught up on all those as well as get caught up on emails.

You will see many posts in one day until I get caught back up so I apologize in advance for overloading your feed reader.

Thank you for understanding.

Four Foods On Friday #36

Here are this week’s four questions.

#1. Name your biggest cooking influence.  My Mom I guess. She never really cooked towards my high school years though. I was the last of five so she went for the convenience foods then. But I remember her making pinto beans & cornbread, fried taters and onions, as well as canning what we grew in the garden.

#2. What is your ultimate comfort food? pinto beans & cornbread, fried taters and onions, sweet tea

#3. Name one must have tool that you think every kitchen should have. a set of silicone spatulas in various sizes. They allow you to get the last bit of batter out of the bowl as well as out of a jar.

#4. Share a time saving tip. When you run out of a mix, don't run to the store to buy yet another box of it... go online and see if you can find a mix recipe for that. Better yet, check out my post on the Make A Mix cookbooks. You could never have to buy a pre-packaged mix like pancake mix, muffin mix, and more again. I don't buy them. I always have the ingredients on hand to make these so I save money at the store and don't have to make a special trip to go buy more when I run out. I just pick my supplies up when I do my monthly shops.

Yes, spatulas are definitely a great tool for the kitchen. I might have to check out those cookbooks. It'd be nice to make my own mixes and not have to buy a bazillion different products.

Yup, I love my spatulas too, and I have a set of silicone brushes as well -- great for basting in the oven or on the BBQ, and they wash like a dream!

I've never tried a silicone brush actually. I'll have to check that out.
Thanks for playing FFOF.
Stumbled.

I just got a silicone basting brush this year and LOVE it! And I know I need to invest in some good silicone spatulas - my current ones are in a sad state.

I love the idea of making mixes instead of buying storebought. Does it really save money? I'll have to try it!

Have a great weekend!

My spatulas are so underused. I still have some muffin mix sitting around but I haven't got to them yet.

I love my silicon spatulas and my silicon pot holders - the only ones that I use now.

My comfort foods are what my mother cooked, too, when I was growing up.

I also grew up on beans, cornbread and taters. This is the greatest combination of food. I love this meal!
