Lynne and DeeBee both asked for more info regarding the Make A Mix cookbooks that I mentioned in my Four Foods On Friday #35 post.
Like I said in that post, I love my Make A Mix cookbooks. (Scroll down for photos of the books and a little more info about each one).
These are cookbooks that list oodles of recipes for mixes and then recipes to use those mixes in.
You'll find master mixes such as:
- Quick Mix - (sort of like Bisquick)
- Hot Roll Mix
- Cornmeal Mix
- Muffin Mix
- Ready Hamburger Mix
- Meatball Mix
- Mexican Meat Mix
- Herbed Stuffing Mix
- Basic Cake Mix
- Basic Cookie Mixes (we love the slice and bake cookies... you make a bunch up and freeze the cookie dough for later use)
- Granola Mix
- Brownie Mix
- Pie Filling Mixes
- Seasonings (taco, onion soup mix, chili seasoning, and more)
- Pie crust Mix
- Drink Mixes
- Salad Dressings
- Tortilla Mix
- Snack Cake Mix
- Sweet Quick Bread Mix (think banana bread, pumpkin bread, zucchini bread, etc.)
- All-purpose Ground Beef Mix
- and many, many more
I won't list the recipes that those mixes alone make as well, it would be quite the list.
Since becoming aware of these books well over 5 years ago and finding them at a local used bookstore near where we used to live, I don't buy mixes or seasoning packets. I have begun making more of our salad dressings now too so I can eliminate that expense. I buy meat in bulk and make up the meat mixes as needed then freeze them for quick meals. I make rice mixes and more from these books too. I use quite a few of the mixes on a regular basis and have not been disappointed.
If I had to recommend a cookbook for beginners, newlyweds, as well as established homemakers, I would suggest and recommend these books. They have really helped with our grocery budget.

(I have the older copy of this one plus the Revised one which has same picture as the first book on the left but with more recipes and some of the ones in the older book are not in the newer one) |

This one has more mix recipes than the first one shown above. | ![]() |
| Make A Mix - I think this may be the updated revised version. I had mentioned that in my post but I'm not 100% sure after reading the description. |

Thanks, Laura! I'm going to look for this cookbook.
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome! I'm going to have to go look for those. My nephew is getting married next summer and I agree, these would make excellent gifts.
