REVIEW: Venus Fly Trap

The Venus Fly Trap  from the Discovery Channel Store toy line is not only a toy but an educational device all rolled in one.

It is geared to children that are 5 years and older and teaches them the mechanics of how the real Venus Fly Trap plant works.

This educational toy is battery operated and uses three (3) AA batteries.  It has a compartment that you put bait in to set the trap.  Motion activated sensor detects when a bug has entered the chamber, and snaps the mouth shut.

Unlike a real Venus Fly Trap plant, the child has the option to transfer the trapped insects to bug habitats, or release them back into the wild.  A real Venus Fly Trap uses them as food.  With this educational toy, the child gets a chance to view the bug up close by looking at it through the clear compartment where the bait trap is. There is also a little door that the child uses to set the trap and free any bugs... preferably not in the house as my 5 year old daughter did with some gnats.

The boys kept setting the trap hoping to catch a big bug.  I was thankful they didn't catch any bees.

Overall, I love educational toys and it looks like my children do too as this one was a hit with them!
