BOOK REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: A Mending at the Edge by Jane Kirkpatrick

A Mending at the Edge (Change and Cherish Historical Series #3)

Author: Jane Kirkpatrick

Publisher: WaterBrook Press (April 15, 2008)

ISBN-10: 1578569796

ISBN-13: 978-1578569793

What a wonderful story this turned out to be.  I had a hard time getting into this book as first thought I'm not really sure why but once I did, there was no turning back.   I felt as if I was standing in the colony at times hearing the sounds and smelling the scents around me. I could imagine being in the same room as the other women quilting or cooking.  I love it when books draw me in like that.  I had heartaches while reading the story of Emma Giesy as well happiness.  .

This book touched my heart as well as gave me a glimpse into colony life in the mid 1800's in Oregon.

You should get the entire series and read it from book one to book three. You may find yourself getting caught up in it as I did.

Summary of the above book as well as the first two books:

The Change and Cherish series follows the story of feisty Emma Giesy

A Mending at the Edge --  This richly textured novel, the third in the acclaimed Change and Cherish series, follows the historical figure of Emma Wagner Giesy, who chafes under the restrictions of her 1860s religious colony. When her bid to belong in her unique way unravels her most precious relationships, she seeks new ways to stitch meaning into her life.

A Clearing in the Wild (Change and Cherish Historical Series #1)

Spirited young Emma Wagner chafes at the constraints of her 1850s religious community, which values conformity over independent thought, especially in women. Skeptical of the colony’s growing emphasis on preparing for “the last days,” Emma clashes with their increasingly autocratic leader—and faces the unexpected consequences of pursuing independence.

A Tendering in the Storm (Change and Cherish Historical Series #2)

This lyrical novel, based on an historical figure of the 1800s, follows the spirited and intelligent Emma Giesy, who achieves her goal of separating her family from the repressive religious community in which she grew up. But unexpected and dire consequences leave her family—and her faith—struggling to survive.

This sounds wonderful to me, I am majoring in Oregon history in school. We mostly study men and it would be fun to read about women in Oregon.
