I have had the flu so I am behind on getting book reviews and other reviews posted. Please be patient with me as I get caught up on all those as well as get caught up on emails.

You will see many posts in one day until I get caught back up so I apologize in advance for overloading your feed reader.

Thank you for understanding.

REVIEW (and giveaway info): Whistlefritz Spanish DVDs for beginners

The Parent Bloggers Network and the Whistlefritz company provided their Spanish DVDs for my family to review. We received their two Spanish full immersion DVDs - Spanish for Beginners: Los Animales (The Animals) and Spanish for Beginners: Vamos a Jugar (Let's Play!).

These DVDs are designed to be fully immersion DVDs so that your child (and you) will be fully immersed into the language.
At first, I was wishing that the DVDs had English subtitles or English words that went with the "featured" Spanish words. However, that would completely defeat the purpose of fully immersing the child into the language. If as a parent you desire an English translation, the DVD does come with a booklet - Translation Guide - so as to provide you with an instant translation of the new words that are introduced in the specific DVDs.

The creator of the Whistlefritz Spanish for Beginners DVDs, Heidi Stock, stated in a letter to me that she "believes it's important to use audio resources (CDs or DVDs) to support children's language development, since young children have a unique ability to learn a second language and develop the fluency and sound of a native speaker." I can see where she states the affirmative for this as just reading a book to learn Spanish or any other foreign language is not going to be good for anyone because you're not hearing the word(s) pronounced. I took two years of Spanish in high school and had a wonderful teacher who used tapes as well as required us to speak the language as soon as we entered the room and forgoing the usage of English within her classroom. My second year of Spanish was a different teacher as the previous one had retired. It was a completely different environment and experience. I learned more in my first year of Spanish than I did in my second year because of the different methods and resources the two teachers chose to utilize.

The two Whistlefritz Spanish for Beginners DVDs are fun for the children with their usage of songs, jokes, skits, and play; all of which are used in order to teach the children the language naturally.

The DVDs, which are approximately 25 minutes run time each, are geared toward children ages 2 to 5 but I'm sure that they would be of benefit to older children as well.

Overall, the DVDs captivated my children and they were indeed learning while have fun.

You can find out more about these DVDs and how fully immersion into a language assists a child in learning that language by visiting at Whistlefritz.com.

A special thank you to the people at Whistlefritz and to Parent Bloggers Network for the opportunity to review this DVD series. I'm thankful for the DVD player on my laptop to play the DVD's too as we don't own a television or DVD player for that.
