I've never had an author or publisher send me little gifts along with the book to be reviewed. It was very sweet to receive a copy of the book along with a coffee cup and my fave... chocolate. I want to publicly thank them for the unexpected goodies.
Now on to the review!
Ok, I'll admit that I'm not really big into self-help books. I'll read them or thumb through them once in a while but I don't seek them out.
To me, this book is a little different from other self-help books I've read or thumbed through on the subject of "unlocking the potential of your mind". I have to laugh every time I think about "unlocking my mind"... along with some useful stuff, there is some scary stuff in there, probably some cobwebs, and lots of useless facts hiding in the recesses and dark corners. Ok, in all seriousness. I do agree with the author on the fact that the mind has far more potential than recognized.
The author lays out the book as a step-by-step guide that assists you in connecting with your mind so to speak... in other words, flipping a switch you haven't turned on yet.
I found it interesting that there is 12 steps in the guide, it reminded me of another 12 step program that some have gone through. Anyway, the steps are:
- Getting Acquainted
- Free Yourself from Self-Improvement
- Who Are You Now?
- Your Reality Bubble
- How Your Mind Works
- Your Internal Dialogue
- You Can Be Anyone
- The Model of the Mind
- How Your Mind Works - Part Two
- Manage Your Emotions and Feelings
- Think of Your Brain as a Battery
- Living as a Free Mind and Body
The author takes each step and goes into detail to help you unlock your potential.
Did it help me? No, I lost interest in reading the book further after a few chapters. I have a hard time pressing on in reading any book when I lose interest after a few chapters.
That is not to say the book isn't good or well written and although I may have lost interest in the book, you may enjoy it and find it helpful.
