My Review
The story will tear at your heart strings.
It will make you mad.
You may even feel the urge to scream in frustration and in fear.
Breathing may become difficult in a few places.
Crying may even be heard coming from deep within you.
I was on the verge of crying in a few of the chapters. I wanted to reach into the book and help the children in the orphanage, to shield her from the bad things happening to her as a child, and to just reach out and hug her.
There are chapters in this book that are not for the faint of heart. The abuse that goes on is sadly what goes on in many homes these days. Helping those that have been in these situations seems to be something that others are not sure what to do, what to say, etc. The author tells her story in a way that you can learn the signs that there may be abuse going on.
I had a hard time reading a few of the chapters because like the author, I am a survivor of child abuse as well as sexual abuse and yes even domestic violence in a previous relationship. It's only by the grace of God that I am where I am now. HE has restored my soul. I can only forgive those that hurt me and go on. I can't change what happened unfortunately. And that is another message that the author seems to be saying... Forgive and go on. I may never be able to forget, but I can't let it drag me down.
I applaud her for sharing her story and I hope that it helps others.
I give this book 5 stars!
About the Book
Silent Prisoner is based on a true story of how one woman, through faith, survived childhood abuse, and later, domestic violence. April follows life’s road as best she can without the benefit of having parents or siblings along the way. On this road of life she encounters a loving aunt, a spiritual mentor, a proper grandmother, and a stoic therapist. Even though these people are only in her life for a brief time, they have planted the seed within her that will sprout forth an inner strength and faith in God and the Angels.
The names of the characters are fictional but the story is real.
